F*A*Q

Updated September 30, 2008

Revisions are boldfaced. Newest entries are at the bottom.

Q:  Can I host a game at the Palace?

A:  Yes, with some restrictions.  Primetime games, such as “Palace Price is Right”, “Millionaire”, and “Deal or No Deal” have regular hosts; and permissions is needed from those regular hosts; usually to host. Other games, such as “Press Your Luck” have no requirements; other than being familiar with the format.  Games such as “Super Password” and “The $100,000 Pyramid” require a demonstration of an ability to write a game.  It is recommended that a “newbie” not host in his/her first 30 days of being a guest.

Q:  What are the rules to PYLP Studios?

A:   The rules for our Palace can be found by clicking here.

Q:  Where can sound packs for the games be found?

A:   Right here.

Q:  What era are the boards in “Press Your Luck” from?

A:   Mid-1984

Q:  What are the special “House Rules” for the games here?

A:   Rules for each individual game can be found on that pages’ game page; located on this web portal, as well as some house rules in the “Rules” page linked from the main page.

Q:  I win the cash and prizes, right?

A:  I don’t even pay my staff.  You certainly will not get any cash and prizes.

Q:  Why can’t other hosts offer real cash prizes?

A:   To avoid potential legal problems, the operating staff made a decision in June of 2005 to disallow any real cash games, at the present time.

Q:  How can I be an operator?  Are there any openings to be an operator?

A:   Operators are chosen based mainly on their graphical and script abilities.  Occasionally a person, who is a good role model that lacks these skills will be selected for balance.

Q:  That’s not fair!  I want to be an operator!

A:   Excessive complaining gets you nowhere except the “killfile”.  Please do not ask.

Q:  I really, really think I can help you out.  Can I please be an operator?

A:  No. Move on.

Q:  Is your last name really Odor?

A:   Yes. Grow up, get out of the 5th grade.

Q: How do I change my name?

A:  It’s simple.  Right click on your avatar (default is a smiley face) and select “Change Name”.   Enter your new name in the box, and click “OK” and your name is changed.  This is vital for games such as “Press Your Luck”.

Q:  How do I change my avatar?

A:  Simple.  Right click on yourself, and choose Wear Props.  Palace comes preinstalled with a set of props.  Other props may be obtained from other Palaces; other members, etc.

Q: Is there a set schedule for games?

A: No. Hosts are all volunteers, and they can host when they see fit.

Q: How do I “qualify” to play a game?

A: Most games do not have a set qualifying procedure.  You simply sit and play.  Palace Price is Right has a qualifying procedure.  Hosts may use a qualifying procedure to ensure a quality game, at their discretion.

Q: How do I make an avatar for use in palace?

A: After getting this question more than once a week, I have made a page specifically for this information.  Click here.

Q: What happens if I ask a question listed on here?

A: More than likely, you will be told to re-read this page.  Or, staff members may ignore you.

Q: How should I avoid getting banned?

A: By following the rules, and acting accordingly.  New members should pay particular attention to the rules, and make a sincere effort not to make a nuisance of themselves.  This irritates the veterans more than anything else.

Q: What if I want to submit a game proposal?

A: Game proposals ARE accepted, however the staff/owners is not responsible for any misuse of your conduct.

Q: I came in to the lobby, and no one answered me! Where is everyone?

A: Try hitting CTRL+F which brings up a list of people currently logged in.  Sometimes, people leave, and sit in the lobby, while others go and play games.

Q: Why is there advertising on the site?

A:  To help pay for server costs, it’s not cheap.  Sorry if you disagree with this. Your support is appreciated.

Q: Why do certain games “vanish” or “disappear”

A:  It is up to the discretion of the operators and the owner to remove underplayed games, poorly hosted games, etc. as they see fit.  No explanation has to be given for this.

Q: Why did I get kicked for playing a sound?

A:  Because, to quote one of my staff members, Palace is not your personal Windows Media Player. Playing excessively long sounds or a string of shorter ones will likely result in a kick.

Q: Why can’t I host <insert show here>?

A:  If it has been proven that you are not capable of hosting a game, your rights to host said game will be stripped.  If you want help in making things better, ask a moderator.

Q: I tried playing Wheel of Fortune, and it didn’t work! I want to play now!

A:  All  games are hosted “live” and by real people. We don’t make the use of robots.
